Smile Software has updated their popular Mac utility TextExpander to version 4.2. The new version is a free update for TextExpander 4 users and is available for immediate download from the Smile web site.
TextExpander's name is pretty self-explanatory. It lets you type in snippets that it automatically populates. You can use it to add standard greetings, texts and signatures without having to write them out individually; you can add HTML, CSS, accented words, symbols and more; it will calculate date and time for you (adding or subtracting as needed), and will automatically position the cursor wherever you want in your expanded snippet. There's much more, too.
The new 4.2 update improves expansion in Google Docs; works better with Fast User Switching; improves handing of accented letters better in search and the "Suggest Matching Abbreviation" feature; works around a "smart quotes" issue in Mavericks, and more. Detailed release notes are available from the web site.
